Facials, Peels and Microdermabrasion

microdermabrasion reno

Your Looks Are Our Concern…

If you are at all concerned about keeping your skin looking youthful and vibrant, you know that constant sun exposure will severely damage your skin if you are not taking the proper precautions. Along with that threat, you have the chemicals in skin care products as well as other environmental factors that, over time, have a negative effect on your skin. When you add age into the equation, it is quite apparent why aesthetician-delivered skin treatments like microdermabrasion, facials and chemical peels are becoming more and more popular.

Healthy skin is not one-size-fits-all. At Reno Sparks MedSpa, our facial treatments, chemical peels, and medical microdermabrasion services are designed to address different skin concerns, lifestyles and goals. Whether you want a relaxing maintenance facial, targeted exfoliation or a corrective treatment for aging or acne, our licensed medical aestheticians customize each service to your skin’s needs.

What Skin Concerns Can These Treatments Address?

Professional skin treatments can improve both the appearance and health of your skin. Our facials, peels, and microdermabrasion treatments are commonly used to address:

  • Dull or rough skin texture
  • Fine lines and early signs of aging
  • Sun damage and uneven skin tone
  • Acne and congested pores
  • Acne scarring and surface irregularities
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dry or dehydrated skin

During your consultation, we evaluate your skin and recommend the treatment or combination that best supports your goals.

Our Facial Treatments

Medical Microdermabrasion:

If you are not familiar with microdermabrasion, it is a non-invasive procedure that is meant to remove the dead skin cells that are on the top layer of skin by applying a fine crystal-like substance directly onto your skin. The crystals act as a super exfoliation treatment that removes the dead cells to reveal the underlying skin that is made up of healthier skin cells.

Microdermabrasion is not a miracle cure for wrinkles, but does create healthier-looking skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

One of the other major benefits of getting microdermabrasion is that it is a quick procedure. Your skin will definitely have a reddened appearance after the treatment is complete, but that will go away rather quickly. You could actually schedule the treatment on your lunch hour and still have time to grab a sandwich. Some of the other treatments will require a recovery period of days, if not weeks before the appearance of your skin returns to normal.

A safe, effective anti-aging and corrective treatment of fine lines, aging, acne scars, pore size, and sun damage. This treatment is firming, exfoliating and hydrating. You will experience visible results after one treatment. Microdermabrasion is probably the most cost effective of all skin rejuvenation procedures.

Facials and Corrective Peels

A facial involves a variety of skin treatments, including: steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage to give your skin a healthier looking glow. There are a variety of types of facials, different types of products used, and there can be some variation in length. The typical extensive facial generally lasts about an hour or even longer, and other treatments called “mini-facials” may only take about 15-30 minutes.

The goals of facials are the same regardless of treatment, and you can expect the following things to occur when you have one:

  • Your skin will be evaluated for the best treatments to best tone and moisturizer that type.
  • The skin will be thoroughly cleansed and dead skin cells will be exfoliated.
  • You may have extraction of blackheads.
  • You will likely have a skin mask treatment.
  • You may have some degree of facial massage.

Here are just some of the facials we offer here at our Medical Spa:

Mini Skin Care Facial:

Teen Facial:

This facial is a mini facial that is gentle and educational, personalized for any skin type or corrective purpose. Duration: 30 min.

Gentleman’s Facial:

Especially for the specific needs of a man’s skin. Deep cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating; includes massage of face, neck and shoulders. Duration: 50 min.

Specialized Peels:

These specialized peels for all skin types are designed to firm, tighten and exfoliate, even skin tone, and hydrate. Perfect for corrective, acne and anti-aging skins.

Duration: 40 min. (recommend at least 3 treatments)

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are corrective exfoliation treatments designed to improve skin tone, texture, and clarity by removing damaged surface layers of skin. Chemical peels work more deeply than facials to stimulate cell turnover and encourage healthier skin renewal. This makes them an effective option for addressing acne, discoloration, early signs of aging and sun damage.

At Reno Sparks MedSpa, chemical peels are selected and customized based on your skin type, sensitivity level and treatment goals. Peel depth and formulation are carefully chosen to deliver visible improvement while maintaining skin comfort and safety.

  • Treatments typically take about 40 minutes
  • Mild peeling or flaking may occur, depending on peel strength
  • A series of treatments is often recommended for the best results
  • Skin appears smoother, brighter, and more even with continued care

We offer customizable chemical peel options to accommodate a wide range of skin types, concerns, and experience levels. Your provider will evaluate your skin during a consultation and recommend the most appropriate option.

ZO® 3-Step Peel

The ZO® 3-Step Peel is a professional-grade treatment that rejuvenates the skin through a combination of exfoliation, stimulation and hydration. This peel includes a blend of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), salicylic acid, lactic acid and a retinol crème to help refine texture and promote a smoother, more radiant complexion. The treatment is performed in-office, with a follow-up retinol crème used to support continued skin renewal.

PCA Sensi Peel®

The PCA Sensi Peel® is designed for individuals with sensitive or easily reactive skin. It uses a gentler combination of lactic acid and trichloroacetic acid to provide exfoliation with minimal discomfort or visible peeling. This option is often ideal for patients new to chemical peels or those seeking skin refreshment without significant downtime.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Treatment

Before Treatment

Your appointment begins with a professional skin evaluation to assess your skin type, current condition and treatment goals. This allows us to select the most appropriate facial, microdermabrasion, or chemical peel for your needs. Depending on the treatment, you may be advised to temporarily avoid certain skincare products, such as exfoliants or retinol, in the days leading up to your visit to minimize sensitivity and optimize results.

During Treatment

Most treatments are comfortable and designed to be both effective and relaxing. You may experience gentle warmth, mild tingling or light exfoliation, particularly during microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Sensations vary by service and your individual skin sensitivity, but treatments are closely monitored to ensure your comfort throughout the session.

After Treatment

Following your treatment, mild redness, tightness, or sensitivity may occur, especially after microdermabrasion or peels. These effects are temporary and typically resolve within a short period. You will receive personalized aftercare instructions, including skincare recommendations and sun protection guidance, to support healing, protect your skin and help maintain your results between visits.

Results and Treatment Frequency

Many patients notice visible improvements in skin texture, tone and brightness after just one treatment. Skin often appears smoother, more refreshed and more hydrated shortly after the visit. While single treatments can provide noticeable benefits, consistent care delivers the most reliable and long-lasting results.

  • Facials are commonly scheduled once a month to maintain skin health, support hydration, and address ongoing concerns such as congestion or dullness.
  • Medical microdermabrasion is often performed every 4 to 6 weeks to promote regular exfoliation, encourage cell turnover, and help maintain a smoother skin texture.
  • Chemical peels are typically recommended as a series, particularly when treating acne, discoloration or early signs of aging, as results build gradually with repeated treatments.

We will create a personalized treatment schedule based on your skin condition, goals and lifestyle, adjusting frequency as your skin responds and improves over time.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Taking a few simple steps before your skin care appointment can help ensure your treatment is both comfortable and effective. In the days leading up to your visit, you may be advised to pause using certain active skincare products, such as exfoliating acids, retinoids or scrubs, depending on the treatment you are scheduled to receive. This helps reduce sensitivity and allows your skin to respond more evenly.

On the day of your appointment, arriving with clean skin and minimal makeup allows for a more accurate skin assessment. It is also helpful to share any recent changes in your skincare routine, medications, sun exposure or skin reactions, as these factors can influence product selection and treatment approach. If you have specific concerns, upcoming events or previous experiences with skin treatments, discussing them during your consultation helps your provider tailor care to your expectations.

Proper preparation allows your provider to customize your treatment safely, address your concerns more precisely and create a plan that supports both immediate results and long-term skin health.

Who Is a Good Candidate for These Treatments?

Most patients are good candidates for professional facials, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels. These treatments are especially beneficial for individuals who want to improve overall skin quality without surgery or extended downtime. They are commonly chosen by patients seeking both preventive care and visible skin correction.

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have mild to moderate skin concerns such as dullness, dryness, or uneven tone
  • Want preventative or corrective anti-aging care to support long-term skin health
  • Experience acne, congestion, enlarged pores or rough texture
  • Are seeking safe, non-invasive skin rejuvenation with minimal recovery time

Certain skin conditions, active irritation, or heightened sensitivity may require adjustments to treatment or alternative options. During your consultation, your provider will evaluate your skin, review your history, and recommend the safest and most effective treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Facial vs. Chemical Peel vs. Microdermabrasion: How to Choose

While facials, chemical peels and microdermabrasion all support healthier skin, they are designed to meet different needs and expectations. Facials are often chosen for routine skin maintenance and overall balance. They focus on cleansing, hydration and supporting the skin barrier, making them well-suited for patients who want relaxation and gradual skin improvement.

Chemical peels are typically selected when more visible correction is desired. By encouraging controlled exfoliation and renewal, peels can help improve concerns such as uneven tone, congestion or early textural changes. These treatments are often part of a planned series and are best for patients seeking to address specific skin issues rather than relying on general maintenance alone.

Microdermabrasion falls between maintenance and correction. It targets the outermost layer of the skin to improve smoothness, clarity and radiance, and is often chosen by patients who want noticeable refinement without significant downtime. It can also be useful for preparing the skin to better absorb professional or at-home skincare products.

Because skin concerns and goals vary, there is no single “best” option for everyone. During your consultation, we will evaluate how your skin behaves, what results you are hoping to achieve and how aggressive or gentle your approach should be. In some cases, alternating or combining treatments over time may provide the most balanced and sustainable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon will I see changes in my skin?

Initial improvements such as smoother texture, improved hydration and a brighter appearance are often noticeable within days of treatment. For concerns such as acne, uneven pigmentation or rough texture, visible improvement tends to develop gradually as the skin responds to continued care. We will explain what kind of timeline to expect based on the specific treatment selected and your skin’s natural renewal cycle.

Can these treatments be customized for my skin?

Yes. Treatments are adjusted not only for skin type but also for current skin condition, tolerance, and treatment history. This includes selecting appropriate exfoliation levels, product formulations and supportive skincare to ensure results are achieved safely and comfortably. Customization helps minimize irritation while maximizing visible improvement.

Are these treatments safe year-round?

Many skin treatments can be safely performed year-round when proper sun protection is used. However, some corrective treatments may require additional precautions during periods of higher sun exposure. We will guide you on timing, sun care and any seasonal considerations to protect your results and maintain skin health.

Will I need to change my skincare routine afterward?

Temporary adjustments to your skincare routine may be recommended to support recovery and protect the skin barrier. This can include using gentler cleansers, enhanced hydration or professional products designed to support skin renewal. We will explain how long any changes should be maintained and when you can resume your normal routine.

Can these treatments be part of a long-term skin care plan?

Yes. Many patients incorporate facials, microdermabrasion or chemical peels into an ongoing skincare strategy. Treatments may be scheduled periodically or combined over time to support skin health, address evolving concerns, and maintain consistent results as the skin changes.
