MicoNeedling: A New Approach to Younger Looking Skin
Microneedling is a newer medical procedure. Although there are several types of microneedling reno, most experts use microneedling pens, at Reno Sparks Medspa we use a CosmoPen device.
This small pen-shaped device has adjustable features and disposable tips, each containing 12 tiny needles. A new, sterile tip is used for each treatment. The needle skin penetration depth is dialed on the pen from 0.25 to 2.5 mm, about 1/100 to 1/10 of an inch. The adjustable depth allows us to customize treatment to minimize pain and maximize results.
How is MicroNeedling Performed:
When the power is turned on the tiny needles move up and down rapidly, producing over 100 tiny needle pricks every second. The tiny needle pricks produce microinjuries. The body’s natural repair mechanisms produce collagen in these areas of injury, reducing scar and tightening skin. Unlike lasers, microneedling reno does not cause a heat injury. This makes it safe any skin type or color. Recovery is rapid and most patients look good within a day, but minor skin trauma or redness may last up to 3 days with deeper treatments.
Minor anesthetic creams are often applied to the treatment area for 20 minutes prior to treatments to minimize pain. Shallow treatments have minimal pain with treatment. Very deep treatments such as for deep acne scars cause more discomfort. Dialing down the depth of needling can quickly reduce pain during a procedure.
MicroNeedling & Anti-Aging Serums: Combination Therapy to Enhance Results
Customized serums and/or nutrients are rubbed in the skin during treatments. These contain different medications; these promote different results including hair growth, skin tightening, acne reduction, skin rejuvenation, skin lightening and/or collagen growth. Skin tightening and collagen formation begin within 30 days and may continue for up to a year. The risk of infection is minimal. The tiny micro-channels created from microneedling close within 20 minutes and clients may use make up 2 hours after the procedure. A microneedling series is more effective than 1 treatment.
Conditions Treated with MicroNeedling:
Almost any area can be treated. Scars on the back, stretch marks in any locale, facial scars, areas of scalp baldness, sagging triceps skin, sun damaged skin on arms, facial wrinkles and C-section scars are just a few of the many types of problems microneedling can improve. Treatments may be given 1-2 weeks apart.
Scars may improve significantly in 2-3 treatments, but stretch marks sometimes require 5-10 treatments. Conditions improved by microneedling include sun damage, skin color variation, melasma, active acne, broad based acne scars, chicken pox scars, traumatic or surgical scars, wrinkles, male pattern hair loss and stretch marks.
Clients often get other treatments, with lasers, Botox or fillers. We prefer Botox be given at least 3 days before or 1 day after microneedling. After fillers like Juvéderm we like to wait at least 4 days after treatment to use the CosmoPen. Gentle laser treatments can be done about the same time as microneedling, but after more aggressive treatments such as CO2 laser (Laser Facelift) we may want to wait a month prior to microneedling.
All of our office members are trained in microneedling, including medical and aesthetician staff. If you have a favorite person you want to do your treatment you can request her.
