A fleshy neck or a neck with extra fat tissue is unsightly. When large this is called a double chin. Technically, this is “submental fullness”, which is doctor talk for extra neck tissue under the chin area, generally with fat tissue there. Some people that are lean elsewhere have inherited this extra tissue under the chin, so being overweight is often not the issue. Treatment for submental fullness is typically liposuction andor Kybella injections. Liposuction involves some scarring, usually mild. Kybella injections produce mild to moderate pain with injection and afterwards the treated area swells for some days and may look pink. Injections may be repeated monthly until the desired result is achieved. Volume of injected product varies by neck size. In this video, a patient with mild submental fullness is injected and tolerates the procedure well. Since the video was made she has had another treatment as well and has noted additional improvement, with shrinkage of the submental fullness. Often, the patients are otherwise lean, as in this case.
