Trigger finger is a common condition in which a finger or hand joint locks in the flexed position. With more advanced cases one cannot voluntarily release the trigger finger, since the pulley/tendon mechanism is abnormally inflamed. When this occurs, one may need to use the other hand to straighten out the trigger finger. Trigger finger injections with steroids are highly effective, use only a small dose of steroid and often improve the situation for 6 months or more. It is not unusual for a client to need repeat injections as the years pass or need the injections in several different joints, often in both hands.
