Facials

Are you unhappy with the current appearance of your skin? Does it feel like your favorite skincare practices have started to fail you? Facials may be the solution for you! These customizable skincare treatments offer a solution to deeply clean the skin and address specific concerns. Explore the possibilities during a consultation with us at Reno Sparks Medspa in Reno, NV!

What Are Facials?

Facials are a cornerstone of skincare and a staple spa service. These non-surgical, non-invasive treatments are a dynamic choice to rejuvenate skin and reveal a refreshed, glowing complexion.

Facials may be recommended for:

  • Combating signs of aging, such as fine lines or wrinkles
  • Deeply cleaning skin
  • Eliminating blemishes, such as acne or blackheads
  • Hydrating and moisturizing dry skin
  • Nourishing skin
  • Tightening loose skin

Although it is important to practice a regular skin care routine at home, incorporating a facial treatment into your routine may help enhance the effectiveness of your favorite products to promote rejuvenated skin.

What Concerns Can a Facial Address?

Acne and Congestion

When oil, dead skin, and debris build up in your pores, they can trap bacteria and cause inflammation and congestion, which you will notice as breakouts, blackheads, whiteheads and bumps under the skin. Sometimes this buildup can be tied to factors outside of your control, like hormonal changes and genetic excess oil production, but it can also be triggered by the wrong skincare products or even touching your skin too frequently. Facials cleanse the skin and extract clogged pores to calm irritated areas and reduce acne breakouts.

Dull or Uneven Skin Tone

Skin tone looks more uneven and dull when there is a buildup of dead skin cells and slow cell turnover. It can also look uneven when melanin production is irregular. Factors like aging and sun exposure are common causes of an uneven or dull skin tone, and it can also be caused by a lack of proper exfoliation. When your regular skincare products are not brightening your skin, you can turn to facials, which use professional-grade ingredients to improve dull skin.

Dehydration and Dryness

Dry skin is skin that lacks oil, while dehydrated skin lacks water. Each of these conditions requires different strategies during your facial. A facial addresses dehydration and dryness through different types of hydrating masks, serums and emollient ingredients to help repair the barrier and make the skin more comfortable any time of year.

Fine Lines and Early Signs of Aging

As collagen production slows and the skin begins to lose elasticity, fine lines can appear. They are often first noticeable around the eyes, forehead and mouth where there is a lot of movement. We can support more youthful skin by boosting circulation and incorporating ingredients like antioxidants or peptides that fight signs of aging.

Clogged Pores

Even if you are not experiencing full breakouts, pores can still become clogged with excess oil, sweat and product residue. Over time, this buildup can stretch the pores and make them look more noticeable. Treatments can clear clogged pores using steam and extractions, and exfoliation can help prevent pores from getting clogged again with dead skin.

Sensitivity and Redness

Sensitive skin can react to ingredients, weather, heat or even stress and leave it prone to redness, irritation or dryness. This may be tied to a compromised barrier or conditions like rosacea. Facials that calm sensitivity and redness typically avoid harsh exfoliants and focus on strengthening the skin with gentle, soothing ingredients.

Sun Damage and Environmental Stress

Long-term UV exposure and environmental stressors like pollution break down collagen and create oxidative damage in the skin. This can lead to dark spots and early aging. Facials that address sun damage and environmental stress often include antioxidant support and brightening ingredients, along with barrier-repairing hydration to help counteract these effects.

Oily or Unbalanced Skin

Skin that produces too much oil might feel greasy or look shiny, especially in the T-zone. In many cases, this is your skin’s way of trying to compensate for dehydration or irritation. Facials treating oily or unbalanced skin can help regulate oil production by gently cleansing the skin and reinforcing hydration without stripping the barrier.

Types of Facials Offered at Reno Sparks Medspa

European Facial

This 60-minute treatment is focused on hydration and skin clarity. It starts with a deep cleanse and exfoliation to remove surface buildup, followed by a massage of the face, neck and shoulders that promotes circulation and helps relax any tension. We also include a hand treatment with heated mittens for extra comfort, plus a personalized mask to replenish moisture in the skin and help it to be more balanced after the facial. The European facial is a great choice when your skin feels dull, dry or stressed.

Mini Skin Care Facial

When you are short on time but still want a boost, this 30-minute facial gives you all of the basics, including warm steam cleansing, gentle exfoliation, facial massage and a finishing mask. It’s ideal for maintenance between more intensive treatments or as a quick reset for dull or congested skin. The mini facial is also a popular option for first-time patients who want a gentle introduction to facial care.

Teen Facial

Planned with younger skin in mind, this 30-minute facial is both gentle and educational. We adjust the treatment to address oily zones, breakouts, or sensitivity while explaining skincare steps to help teens develop healthy habits. The teen facial focuses on cleansing, light exfoliation and calming products that won’t irritate young skin. It’s a helpful option for teens navigating hormonal changes or early signs of congestion.

Gentleman’s Facial

Men’s skin often has unique concerns, including shaving irritation, excess oil and a thicker texture. This 50-minute treatment addresses those needs with a combination of deep cleansing, exfoliation and hydration. The gentleman’s facial also includes a massage of the face, neck and shoulders to relieve tension.

Specialized Peels

These treatments go deep to improve skin texture and tone. We have peels for all skin types, using exfoliating acids and hydrating agents to help reduce visible signs of aging, support acne-prone skin and brighten sun-damaged areas. Each session lasts about 40 minutes, and we usually recommend a series of three or more for the best results.

Hydrafacial®

The Hydrafacial uses a patented vortex-fusion system to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate all in one session. It is gentle yet thorough and suitable for nearly every skin type, including sensitive skin. During the process, we infuse ingredients like antioxidants and hyaluronic acid into the skin using serums that we personalize for every treatment. Each helps to improve clarity, tone, hydration and overall skin health. This is an option that gives you smoother and brighter skin right away.

What Are the Benefits of Regular Facial Treatments?

Regular Support for Long-Term Skin Health

Your skin is constantly responding to environmental changes, hormones, seasonal shifts and stress. A facial treatment supports your skin through all of its natural cycles of repair and renewal, while giving it extra nutrients to boost its health and ingredients to address environmental damage. Regular treatments can keep your pores unclogged and improve the circulation in your skin to give you a smoother surface and brighter tone. Frequent treatments also allow us to monitor any changes in your skin and respond to them.

Stress Relief and Relaxation

The skin and nervous system are closely connected, which is why stress often shows up as breakouts and irritation. A facial treatment both addresses these effects of stress and helps reduce it through our massage techniques. It also gives you time to step away from your day and focus on your own well-being.

Better Absorption of Skincare Products

Dead skin and a buildup of other debris can create a barrier that prevents skincare products from working the way they should. After a facial treatment, the skin is freshly exfoliated and free of surface debris. Facials create an ideal environment for your serums and moisturizers to penetrate into your skin and give you the results that you want. We also provide education, so you know which products are best for your skin.

Preparing for Your Facial

Avoid exfoliating at home for at least 48 hours before your appointment so your skin is not sensitive or irritated before your treatment. If you are using retinol or any prescription topicals, it’s best to pause them a few days in advance unless we instruct you otherwise. Try to avoid wearing any makeup or skincare products on the day of your treatment, and let us know about any recent treatments you have had or any allergies or skin sensitivities so we can adjust your facial accordingly. Hydrating well in the days leading up to your visit can also help you get more predictable results.

What Could I Expect from the Treatment Process?

While the specifics of each facial treatment will vary, facials have similar steps at the core of the process. The process begins with a member of our team cleansing your skin, deeply cleaning the area to refresh the complexion. Extractions or similar processes may then be performed to reduce or eliminate the presence of blemishes and imperfections on the skin. The process concludes with a massage to promote circulation. Products, such as serums or moisturizers, may be used.

Each treatment is performed in the comfort of our Nevada office. There is no discomfort or downtime associated with facials. Treatment sessions are often short, and you should be able to resume your daily activities immediately following a session! While the results will vary for each person and their particular facial treatment, most people enjoy results immediately. Consistent treatments may be recommended to best promote healthy, glowing skin.

Post-Facial Aftercare Tips

Avoid wearing makeup for the rest of the day so your skin can breathe and recover. Skip exfoliating products, retinol or strong active ingredients for at least 48 hours unless otherwise advised. Stay out of direct sun exposure and avoid hot environments like saunas or steam rooms for a day or two. You can use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer to keep your skin calm and hydrated, and make sure to drink plenty of water and continue using broad-spectrum SPF daily.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Facials are customizable treatments, and they are designed to be safe and effective for nearly all skin tones and types! Most people may be able to benefit from a facial treatment, but it is still important to maintain realistic goals and expectations when approaching treatment.

A consultation with our team in Reno can help determine which facial treatment you may best benefit from. While a one-time treatment can refresh your skin, a series of treatments is often recommended to achieve and maintain the best results. They can collaborate with you to develop your unique treatment plan.

If you have an active skin infection, open wounds or a recent sunburn, it’s best to allow your skin time to heal before treatment. Certain prescription medications that cause skin sensitivity, such as isotretinoin, may also limit your options temporarily. Anyone with a history of allergic reactions to skincare products should share that information so we can adjust the treatment plan.

When to Schedule Your Facial

Facials can be scheduled year-round, but certain times may offer added benefits. Seasonal changes, like the transition from winter to spring or summer to fall, are ideal for refreshing the skin and adjusting to shifts in weather. It’s also helpful to book a facial when you notice dryness, breakouts or dull texture that doesn’t respond to your usual routine. Planning a facial a few days before a special event can give the skin a smoother, more radiant appearance without downtime.

FAQs About Facials

How long do facial results last?

You may notice smoother, softer skin right after your facial, and this refreshed look can last for several days. The longevity depends on your skin type and the products you use at home. It also changes based on the type of facial performed. Staying consistent with home care and protecting your skin from the sun and other environmental factors will help extend your results.

How often should you get a facial?

Most people respond well to getting a facial every 4 to 6 weeks, a time period that coordinates well with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. If you want to address something specific, like breakouts or discoloration, we may recommend more frequent visits at first. We will help you build a schedule based on your goals and skin’s behavior.

Is there any downtime after a facial?

Most facials don’t require any downtime, though your skin might be a little pink or sensitive right afterward, especially if extractions or exfoliation were involved. Any mild redness fades within a few hours. You will want to avoid the sun, heat and heavy makeup for the rest of the day to keep your skin calm.

How long does a facial take?

Facials can range from fast 15-minute treatments to full 60-minute sessions, depending on the type of facial you get. Mini facials are a great option for when you are in a hurry, and longer treatments allow for more cleansing, massage and masking. When you book your appointment, we will let you know how much time to set aside.

When will I see my facial results?

Most people notice improvements right after their facial treatment, like smoother texture or a subtle glow. Skin often looks more even and feels softer once dead skin and buildup are removed. If you have deeper concerns like breakouts, it can take time to notice visible results, but your skin will still feel calmer and more hydrated after each treatment.

Can facials be combined with other treatments?

Facials can work well alongside other treatments like peels, light therapy or microneedling. We can discuss either spacing them out or layering treatments in the same visit if it is safe to do so.
