Laser tattoo removal with the 1064 wavelength machine (Q switched ND YAG machine) was useful, but never great. Problems with this technology include the following: pain with the procedure, incomplete tattoo removal, difficulty removing certain ink colors and an excessive number of procedures (sometimes over 20) to completely remove ink. The laser tattoo removal process literally took years. Cynosure developed the Picosure laser which revolutionized laser tattoo removal. The Picosure is an ultrafast laser (pulse much shorter and more powerful than the old technology). This truly is game changer for laser tattoo removal. The pain is less (due to less treatments) and some tattoos are totally cleared in just 3-4 treatments! Ink is more completely removed and several wavelengths are available to get different colors better removed. One might think the treatment would cost more, but not really. It is more per treatment, about the same for the series of treatments. Would you rather get your tattoo fully gone in 5 treatments with the Picosure or get it 90% gone in 10 treatments with the old technology, for the same price?
